Catching fireflies

Well, it’s official. I’ve joined the Mac world. I now know what it is to have a computer that doesn’t overheat at random, threaten to dump everything on my hard drive, or take five minutes to load a page I didn’t even mean to click on. It is glorious. Beautiful, you might say. So it’ll be hard to leave behind my new MacBook after only a few days together. But it’ll be worth it, because this weekend, I’ll be going to the inaugural Firefly Music Festival.

Among the many bands that will be playing Firefly are Jack White, the Black Keys, Modest Mouse, the Flaming Lips, Young the Giant, the Wallflowers, Fitz and the Tantrums, Grouplove and OHMAHGAH just look at the lineup for yourself. Plus, there’ll be hot air balloons, a Dogfish Head brewery, an arcade, and a vineyard. As you might imagine, I’ve been looking forward to this for awhile.

And this is what packing for three days of camping in Dover, Delaware looks like. A little messy, a little scary, but carefully and meticulously thought-out. Target had no idea what was about to hit it when I came along yesterday to stock up on supplies.

I went back and forth about bringing my manual camera since it’s so heavy and I still don’t have a phone with a working camera. But I knew I had to document the musical experience, and you know what that means. Fun photos to come following my extra-long and MUCH-needed weekend.

(I know what you’re thinking. I’m just another one of those bloggers with photos of her perfectly assembled and wrinkle-free wardrobe. Right? That’s what you’re thinking.)

This bag is essential for every trip I make EVER. It’s a Swiss Army travel bag, and it holds every toiletry I need. There are several dozen pockets, zippers, and secret compartments to hold things like foot cream (kidding) and butt wipes (not). And yes, I’m bringing makeup to a weekend-long outdoor festival. Not just ’cause I’m vain. It has SPF in it.

Why yes, these are $30 boots from Target. It isn’t a music festival without slightly impractical (but oh-so-cute) shoes.

I’m certain I thought of everything (going to All Good festival last year taught me a lot), but pictured above is kinda the most important thing, aside from underwear. I’ve already checked my bag twice to make sure I actually packed my wristband. I have the tendency to forget things that grant me entrance to the thing I’m going to. In the past, I’ve forgotten prom tickets, concert tickets, and IDs. Always makes for a good story later.

So that’s what John and I will be up to this weekend. And I’ll be gathering good blog material for later… when I am reunited with my glorious new computer.

  1. Those boots are HAWT. Also, that music festival sounds like a blast…I’m super jealous. Can’t wait to see pictures!!

  2. Oh, me too! I’m super jealous as well. The line-up for that festival sounds amazing already and I haven’t even checked the complete list yet.

You can never be TOO prepared for a festival. Trust me. I once brought four of those disposable raincoats, and ended up using all of them. You’d think four would be enough raincoats for a two-day festival, but sadly it wasn’t. So, you know even if you don’t THINK you might need something… you probably should take it with you anyway. Someone else might need it.

Anyway, have a great time. And remember to take lots of pics to show us. But mostly, just ENJOY your weekend! :)

    ps. cute boots!

  3. JEALOUS DOES NOT EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE. I CAN’T EVEN. ALKDJFLKSJDF

  4. You CATCH those fireflies girl. Catch em.

Lovely photos! And congratulations on the mac :)

  5. Sounds like you have an amazing weekend in store! Good for you. Love the boots. I’ll be seeing some live music with Best Coast on Saturday night but now I wish it was a more! Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

  6. Don’t talk to me about your glorious new Mac computer, Cassie, okay? (Sorry, it’s the jealousy talking.) I really need to save up for a new laptop anyway, because my big one and my netbook are getting old, especially Big Bertha. That’s my big laptop. She’s close to crapping out on me, and when that day comes I want to be able to walk into Best Buy and be like, “Yo, I need a Pro.” Actually, I really want the Air, but it doesn’t have a built-in CD-ROM drive. I mean, I could always buy the external one. I like the Air because it’s light and thin and easily portable compared to a Pro. But Pro holds more memory and stuff, so, I don’t know…

Anyway, I hope you have fun at the music festival. I just got back from New York and am having total city blues right now. I want to go back so bad! (By the way, I’m going to have to go to Target now and get those boots, so thanks.)

  7. Hope you had a wonderful, wonderful time!

  8. Yay for you bringing your Minolta! Can’t wait to see the photos.

I confess, I have a soft spot for ‘What’s in my handbag’ and ‘What I pack’ posts!

  9. I am late but I hope you had the best time!

  10. Congrats on the Mac! And congrats on assembling a wardrobe I would very much like to steal. Those boots are the most fun ever!
