Exposed

Awhile back, I was messing with my camera and attempted some double-exposure with the film. I had fun picking random shots to use as layers and looked forward to whatever surprises I ended up with. When I went to develop several other rolls, though, I thought maybe I’d lost one since none had the effect I was going for. Turns out the following photo developing trip revealed a few gems, below—most of which (save for these first two) were from McKenzie’s wedding. (Which keeps getting attention from big-name blogs. It was featured on Free People’s blog yesterday!)

Here’s a subtle touch of double-exposure:

And here’s an awesomely dramatic layered shot:

Plus, a few regular shots from that wedding weekend that show just how wonderful a home McKenzie has.

Such vivid color. I love it. I think eventually, when the trees are bare and the sky is grey, I’ll go back to playing with black and white film. What do you think?

A farm wedding

Remember when I told you one of my bestest friends was getting married recently? Well, I thought I’d share some photos I took with Ole (Somewhat) Faithful from that busy, magical, and love-filled weekend. I tried to capture a lot of the little moments that went on behind the scenes as McKenzie, Jamie, their families, and friends prepared for the wedding on the farm. It was amazing watching it all come together (seriously, how are weddings possible?), and it couldn’t have resulted in a more perfect day for the couple. The official photographer’s photos aren’t yet public* (and I can’t wait until they are!), but a teaser photo or two show me they’re going to be stellar. I, on the other hand, will keep my photography skills at the hobby level. As long as I’m shooting with film, anyway. Once again, I managed to expose an entire roll. Whoops.

For now, enjoy this glimpse of life on the farm.

*UPDATE! The ridiculously talented official wedding photographer, Lydia Jane, has updated her blog to include some truly gorgeous shots of the wedding. To see a true photographer’s touch capturing the beauty of that day, head over here.

What’s my worth?

All right, wittytitlehere.com. Let’s see what you’re about.

After an entire week of obsessing over this new domain, I finally get to focus on what’s most important: content. I must say, I feel the pressure now that I’ve moved onto bigger and better things. I’d be lying if I said I don’t care about how many readers I have and whether or not those readers like the posts enough to comment on them. It’s somewhat exhilirating watching your numbers go up and knowing you’re not just blowing smoke up your own skirt when you try to convince yourself that people do like what you have to write! They really do!

But one thing I need to keep in mind, above all else, is that I must not succumb to the pressures and post a lot of boring-ass crap about what I thought of this week’s Jersey Shore or something. (For the record, I do not. Watch. That. Show.) If you want to know what people thought of Snooki’s recent shenanigans, check your boring friends’ Facebook statuses later. (Sorry. Was that mean?)

No, I must stick to what I know and like best, which is putting a cynical spin on things. In addition to unicorns and poop humor.

Hmm, I wonder how many people I turned off to my writing with just that sentence.

The fact is, I can’t please everyone. But I’d like to think I have the ability to gain loyal readers and, maybe, one day in the distant future, have small-time advertisers paying me to put up a harmless ad or two. Because I’d also be lying if I said I had no interest in profiting in some form or another thanks to the blerg. (But you can never pay me to endorse your silly facial waxing kits or travel agencies in writing! So don’t try!)

This does bring up the inevitable thought, though, of what my writing is really worth. So what if I’ve got a bunch of readers? Does that make me a better human being? Does it translate to greater awesomeness? Could I possibly get a job as a result of this blog? I don’t know. That wouldn’t be so bad. That wouldn’t be bad at all.

Well, I might not yet know what I’m worth in the online world, but I do know a painting of me by the lovely McKenzie sold for forty bucks, so someone out there likes me!

Until I figure out all these impossible questions, I’ll be doing my thing here. So I hope you’ll follow along as I make sense of life and the world around me. It’s going to be an interesting ride on the mystery train.

McKenzie makes me look goood
