Aww, this is awesome. Yay for you settling into L.A. It’s also so interesting to read because some of these apply to California in general, but then others are SO L.A.!
Fun post. I lived in Los Angeles from birth to age 9 and I consider myself from there, even though I’ve lived in Las Vegas for much, much longer (since age 10).
I didn’t know you were originally an Angeleno! I’ve always wondered what it would be like growing up out here. I wonder if I would’ve taken it all for granted (probably).
That sounds awesome- you had me at avocado tree! I LOVE them. Send me some I live in Northern Virginia and other than here the only other state I’d consider residing in is California – I’ve never been (planning on it next year hitting LA actually) but I just get a sense I’d love it, haha. As far as the “FOMO,” I feel that way about Austin. There is WAY too much stuff going on ALL the time, and then you factor in all the horrendous traffic you have to fight in order to actually get to any of it… What’s a girl to do?
Yeah, another item on this list could’ve been “you never go to things on the other side of the city because…traffic.” It’s one of the downfalls of living in a glorious city, for sure.
Hahah yep. When we first got out here and were staying with a friend, we took the 405 all the time and learned veeery quickly why everyone loathes it. I’m so glad that’s not part of my commute. Driving through downtown is bad enough!
Also also, is the license plate thing something that can be ticketed?! I’ve always been under the assumption that dealer plates are super prevalent here because in California you’re allowed to go without registered plates for up to three months (I used to think it was six, but I just found out it was three), and there are more than usual ridiculously rich people in LA who are constantly buying (or leasing – I think the key here is leasing) new cars, thus the large number of dealer plates. Either way, it’s very silly. Compensating much, BMW owners? *shakes fist at all of the awful drivers in black BMWS* #roadrage …Okay I’m going to bed.
Three months is such a ridiculously long amount of time for that to be okay. Why aren’t there temporary tags?! God forbid one of those cars does a hit-and-run (as is so common here) and can’t be identified because they don’t have real license plates.
But yeah, I Googled it once when we first got out here because I wanted to know what the hell was up. And I came across car forums where people were bragging about how they’d left theirs on for years and “gotten away with it.” Hatehatehate.
And I got a 44 out of 100 on that quiz! They call me “bicoastal” and “chill.” I will take it.
I can relate to a few of these. I would add “You have a strong opinion about In-N-Out, whether positive or negative. You also have a specific order on hand.” I guess that’s a California thing in general. I’m trying to think of a few others.

You alternate juicing with smoothie-ing and eat a lot of quinoa and kale. You also yoga and spin and go to bar method.

Yup, yup and yup. Have done/cooked with all of those (why is quinoa so expensive?), but I’ve been on a heck of a yoga kick lately.
